Meet Andrew Barton

I was born to a single immigrant mother in Texas—the third of four children. She had me at 18 and made the hardest decision of her life: giving me up for adoption because she knew she couldn’t provide the care I needed.

I was raised by a white family as a native Mexican, always walking between two worlds. That experience shaped me. It gave me a deep understanding of different communities, a belief in the power of bringing people together, and a drive to serve. No matter where we come from, we all want the same things—security, opportunity, and a government that works for us, not against us.

I’ve been fighting for Colorado my entire career, and will bring that fight to the Capitol as your State Senator for District 17.

I began my political organizing with New Era Colorado, registering young voters in Boulder County and working on student loan relief for higher education. I spent four years at the Capitol where I focused on gun violence prevention, expanding green energy infrastructure, public education access, reducing the teacher shortage, and improving mental health services in rural schools.

At Colorado Common Cause, I am leading the Colorado Voting Rights Act to safeguard voter protections against federal threats. Engaging with cities and counties across the state to align policy priorities with community needs, I am dedicated to centering collaboration and making the political process accessible for all voices.

Our campaign is people powered.

Help fight for a future where everyone belongs.
